Types of Commercial Water Heaters

Water heaters come in a few types.  Many water heaters have a tank which holds water and sits over a heating element.  The heating element can either use natural gas or electricity to heat the water.  The water heater will heat the water to a predetermined temperature and keep it there until it is ready to be used.  When someone turns on a hot water faucet the water flows from the hot water heater tank through the pipes and out of the faucet.  At the same time, cold water flows into the tank so it may be heated up to the appropriate temperature.
Some high-efficiency water heaters use a technology called condensing technology in order to pre-heat water before it flows into the tank to be heated.  Generally, this is accomplished using the exhaust gas from the heating element. Whereas with a traditional hot water heater this exhaust gas would simply go through a pipe and be expelled outside, with a condensing technology heater this gas is directed so that it flows over the supply pipes before they go into the hot water heater itself.

Disadvantages of Commercial Water Heater

Commercial Water Heaters | Missouri Plumbing ServiceOne disadvantage of traditional water heaters is that they supply only a certain amount of hot water over a given period of time.  This is why sometimes if you take a shower after everyone else in the house has already showered the hot water will begin to run cold before you are finished with your shower: the tank of the hot water heater has been depleted of hot water and the water that is flowing into it is not remaining long enough to be properly heated. To address the issue of hot water heaters running out of water the tankless water heater was invented.  A tankless water heater—as its name indicates—does not have a tank where water is heated and stored; instead, water passes through a series of pipes which are heated, causing the water to be heated as it passes through the water heater.  A tankless water heater is capable of providing a limitless supply of hot water and is a good choice for some commercial applications. When your water heater is not working properly it can lead to a host of problems including:
  • Cold water
  • Leaking water
  • Damage to pipes
  • Damage to walls and floors
  • Fire
  • Deadly gases being vented into the building
  • Higher than necessary gas or electric bills
  • And others
As you can tell, water heaters are complicated and delicate pieces of machinery.  There is a lot of thought and precision engineering that goes into building and maintaining a water heater of any variety.  To this end, you need to make sure that the person working on your water heater is a certified technician and not some random person who just slapped on a plumber’s uniform and calls himself or herself a plumber. We have made it easy for you to ensure that the person working on your water heater has the appropriate credentials and licenses.  Our database only contains credentialed professionals who carry the appropriate certification.  This means you can rest assured that, when you contact us and we send someone to your business, that someone will be qualified to do the work that you need to have done.
